What to expect with Oral Surgery

Should you need to see our Oral Surgeon, your general dentist will refer you. During your consultation with the specialist, they might need to take additional X-rays of your mouth and head to determine precisely what your needs are. They will also review your medical history, and it’s very important to mention all medications you take including over-the-counter products, vitamins and supplements.

What does our Oral Surgeon do?

Our oral surgeon provides the following treatments:

  • Surgical extractions (wisdom teeth/ roots)
  • Routine dental extraction +/- socket preservation
  • Coronectomy
  • Assessment of intra-oral lesions/ areas of concern
  • Biopsies and excision of intra-oral lesions
  • Apicectomies
  • Treatment of odontogenic cysts
  • Closure of oroantral communication
  • Removal of roots from the maxillary antrum
  • Exposure of teeth including canines for orthodontic purposes

Oral Surgery FAQs

Yes, our surgeons are fully participating, which means you pay nothing extra for procedures covered under the insurance schedule of benefits. You will have to pay only the consultation fee.

 

Yes, you would require a referral letter from your general dentist.

No, our oral surgeon will ensure that your mouth is fully numb using local anaesthesia – you will feel pinches in your mouth.

You will feel some pushing and pressure, this is not pain and is unavoidable.
The drilling feels exactly like the sensation of having a filling and is not painful.
Stitches do not hurt.
We will advise/prescribe pain killers to make your recovery more comfortable.
If having sedation, you may not even remember the procedure.

Our Surgeons are fully participating in most major dental including; VHI, Laya and Irish life. If you have private health insurance and are suitable for treatment in the clinic then normally the surgical fee will be covered. Certain procedures are completely covered with many of the insurance companies. Treatments marked with an asterisk on the above price list is usually fully covered for dental insurance policy holders.
