Dental veneers, also known as porcelain or ceramic veneers, are thin strips of dental ceramic that are permanently bonded to the front surface of your teeth. They serve as a cosmetic solution to improve the colour, shape, length, and overall appearance of your teeth, providing a natural-looking and long-lasting aesthetic enhancement.
What happens during this treatment?
Receiving dental veneers typically involves two visits to our dental practice in Dublin. During the first visit, we will prepare your teeth by making minor modifications to ensure they can accommodate the veneers. We will also take moulds of your teeth to custom-craft veneers that fit perfectly.
The second appointment, usually scheduled two to four weeks later, involves cementing the veneers onto your teeth using a strong bonding agent. The artistry and skill of our ceramist, combined with careful diagnosis, planning, preparation, and cementation techniques by our prosthodontist, are essential to achieving excellent aesthetic results.
Why are veneers needed?
While veneers are primarily used for cosmetic purposes, they can effectively address various dental imperfections, including discolouration, minor misalignment, gaps between teeth, and uneven or worn tooth surfaces. However, it’s important to note that veneers are best suited for teeth that are not heavily filled, as they bond well to natural tooth enamel but not to fillings or dentine.
Veneers serve to give you a better smile, but remember that they do not serve to correct issues in the same way that, say, braces do.Before proceeding with dental veneers, we will discuss all your treatment options to ensure you are comfortable and satisfied with your decision.
What happens after the treatment?
After your dental veneers are placed, we will provide you with comprehensive instructions on how to care for them at home. While veneers are strong and long-lasting when done correctly, it’s essential to maintain good oral hygiene.
If you feel your veneer slip or come loose, make sure to get in touch with us as soon as possible.
