Mouthguards are essential for all those playing contact sports, and particularly for children whose teeth are softer and more susceptible to damage. At Northumberland Dental Care, we are happy to examine your teeth and jaw before advising on the best mouthguard for you.
What happens during an appointment to fit mouthguards?
You have the option of buying stock mouthguards or boil and bite mouthguards, which are inexpensive but will not fully mould to the teeth.
For a custom-fit mouthguard, we will take an impression of your teeth structure. We will then discuss the look and feel of the mouthguard with you, before deciding on the right option. Custom-fit mouthguards are more expensive than boil and bite or stock mouthguards, but are far more comfortable and protect your mouth more effectively.
Why are mouthguards needed?
If you are playing contact ball sports like rugby, football, soccer, hockey or hurling, it is so important to protect your teeth from potential damage. One-third of all adult dental injuries are linked to playing sports, and your chances of injury double when you are not wearing a mouthguard.
What happens after mouthguards are fitted?
After fitting your mouthguard, we are there to assist if you have any questions or concerns.
