Oral Surgery Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, you would require a referral letter from your general dentist.

No, our Oral Surgeon will ensure that your mouth is fully numb using local anaesthesia. You will feel some pushing and pressure. This is not pain and is unavoidable. The drilling feels similar to the sensation of having a filling and is not painful. Stitches do not hurt. We will advise/prescribe pain killers to make your recovery more comfortable. If you decide to be sedated, you may not even remember the procedure.

Dr Daphne Halley provides intravenous (IV) sedation for oral surgery. IV sedation is performed by placing a small cannula into a vein in your arm, or back of the hand, and a sedative drug is administered. The sedative works very quickly and you feel instantly relaxed. The full sedative effects last for about an hour which allows plenty of time to carry out your oral surgery.

Dr Halley is fully participating in most major dental insurance, including; VHI, Laya and Irish life. If you have private health insurance and are suitable for treatment in the clinic then normally the surgical fee will be covered. Certain procedures are completely covered with many of the insurance companies. Treatments marked with an asterisk on the above price list are usually fully covered for dental insurance policy holders.
