Protect Your Children’s Teeth
6 Ways to Protect Your Children’s Teeth This Easter. “It’s common knowledge that sugar is one of the main causes of tooth decay, and unfortunately Easter eggs are full of it! However, there are effective steps you can take to help protect your child’s teeth this Easter,” says Dr Jennifer Collins, Lead General Dentist at Northumberland Dental Care. Before we all get stuck into our chocolate eggs over the Easter break, here are six ways you can protect your child’s teeth this Easter… Save treats for after meals “It’s not just the amount of chocolate and sweets we eat this Easter. The frequency and timing of consumption is also important when it comes to protecting our teeth,” says Dr Jennifer Collins. Instead of grazing on Easter eggs throughout the day, enjoy some chocolate as dessert straight after a meal. Saliva production increases during meals, which helps to rinse away sugary food particles and can reduce the risk of cavities.

What is Endodontic Treatment?
Within the root of your tooth, situated beneath the gum line, there is a canal filled with pulp which provides your tooth with nourishment and contains a lot of nerve endings. Endodontic treatment (root canal treatment) involves the cleaning, shaping and filling of the root canal system. Root canal treatments are necessary when the pulp becomes inflamed or infected. The inflammation or infection can be caused by a variety of reasons; deep decay, repeated trauma to the tooth, or a crack or chip in the tooth. An injury to a tooth may cause pulp damage even if the tooth has no visible chips or cracks. If pulp inflammation or infection is left untreated, it can cause pain or lead to an abscess. Trick or Treat! Mind Your Teeth!
We all know that sugar can be bad for your teeth, which makes Halloween a particularly scary time for your oral health!
Sugar in sweets and fizzy drinks allows for the bacteria in dental plaque to produce acids. This acid can lead to loss of tooth mineral, which eventually leads to cavities and tooth decay.
Dr Jennifer Collins, Lead General Dentist at Northumberland Dental Care, has outlined some tricks to protect your healthy teeth this Halloween.
#1 Choose Treats Wisely
While sugar in general is bad for your teeth, some treats can be more harmful than others. For example, sticky sweets such as toffee or jellies will linger on your teeth for longer than softer treats like chocolate, which puts you at higher risk of experiencing tooth decay. Also, beware of hard sweets that can chip or crack teeth. Bags of popcorn are a great, healthy option for trick-or-treaters!
#2 Timing is Everything
We advise enjoying your Halloween treats during mealtimes, such as after dinner. Sa

Erosive tooth wear, or tooth erosion, is much more common than you may think. Did you know that about a third of all adults experience erosive tooth wear? This can occur due to a variety of reasons, but there are ways to prevent and treat this!
Dr Saoirse O’Toole, Prosthodontist at Northumberland Dental Care, has answered some of your frequently asked questions about erosive tooth wear.
What is erosive tooth wear?

Unfortunately, once it is gone, enamel or dentine will not come back, unlike other substances in the human body such as skin and bone. The best thing to do is find out what is causing the wear and try to prevent it.
What’s the difference between erosive tooth wear a
