    Dr Darragh Byrne
    Dentist
A native of Oranmore, Darragh travelled to Scotland to study dentistry and graduated from the University of Dundee. He subsequently worked in a city centre practice in Edinburgh where he further developed his skills. During this time he obtained his vocational trainee certificate and undertook numerous continuous professional development courses. Darragh returned to Galway in the summer of 2017 where he took up his position with us in Claregalway.
Darragh first became interested in dentistry after numerous dental accidents when playing sport as a teenager – as a result he underwent numerous complex treatments. This gives him a great insight into dental treatment from a patient’s perspective and allows him to help his patients through treatment.
As a general dentist, he enjoys all aspects of dentistry and aims to create a warm friendly atmosphere with all his patients. He especially enjoys treating nervous patients by guiding them through the treatment process and helping them overcoming their fears. Darragh will listen to his patients’ worries and addresses these before starting any treatment.

Darragh carries out routine dental procedures as well as more complex procedures such as root canal fillings, crowns, bridges and restoring implants. He undertakes cutting edge aesthetic treatments such as ICON for removing white staining on front teeth. Darragh will explain all treatment options thoroughly with his patients and talk them through the cost of each of these.

Apart from dentistry, Darragh has a keen interest in many sports both locally and nationally. Darragh has played hurling and football for Oranmore Maree Gaa club since he was a child and enjoys going to the gym, hill walking and socializing with friends. He is a keen traveler and has volunteered in an orphanage in Nepal as well as travelling to help children in Tonga and The Cook Islands as a dental student.

    Dr Laura Kennedy
    Dentist
Having completed her first year of a radiography degree in University College Dublin, it was then that Laura realised she would much rather a career in dentistry, where the patient's needs are the biggest focus. Laura received an Honours Degree in Dentistry from University College Cork in 2015, after which she relocated to Galway from Cork in June 2015 where she took up an associate dental position with us. With such a large patient base Laura has gained valuable experience during her time working with us, and has built up a great rapport with her patients.

Laura thrives on treating nervous patients, often choosing to use the first visit as a consultation only to get to know the patient, and for the patient to feel comfortable with her. Laura strongly believes that taking the extra time to discuss and explain treatments options with all patients, particularly the nervous ones, will save time and anxiety in the long run. Laura has such a gentle and caring personality. She is considerate, courteous, friendly and helpful. She is highly regarded as a sensitive and patient dentist who has a loyal patient base returning to her on an on-going basis. Laura thoroughly enjoys working with nervous patients, not only to complete their treatment, but to work through their fears relating to dental treatment; she was nominated by her patients for a Sensodyne Sensitive Dentist of the Year Award 2017 as a result.

Laura is a keen advocate for preventive dentistry, emphasising frequent cleanings, patient homecare, including tooth brushing and flossing, and timely intervention as this is the best way to eliminate many of the that problems patients experience. Laura feels that early recognition and counselling on habits which might be negatively influencing your health, such as poor diet and smoking, may help create more successful treatment outcomes.

Laura also thoroughly enjoys treating children, and making their early experiences with the dentist happy ones, as well as treating the elderly and gaining insight into their lives and experiences. Laura attends many continuing educational programmes, from hands on courses to lecture series. She has also given several talks to schools and preschools on the importance of oral hygiene. Laura has also taken part in a number of Free Oral Cancer Check events as part of the annual Mouth Cancer Awareness Day, including working with Cope Galway in 2017 to give free oral cancer examinations to excluded groups in society, including the homeless.
