However, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/news\/ireland\/irish-news\/hundreds-of-thousands-not-taking-up-prsi-dental-optical-benefits-1.3970087\">recent survey<\/a> reported in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/news\/ireland\/irish-news\/hundreds-of-thousands-not-taking-up-prsi-dental-optical-benefits-1.3970087\">The Irish Times<\/a> showed that more than two-thirds of these taxpayers do not claim what they are due. Are you one of them?<\/p>\n<p>As the year ends \u2013 and thus your chance to claim for the calender year 2019 \u2013 we answer your questions about the scheme.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are PRSI entitlements?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Government\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ie\/en\/service\/1fb655-treatment-benefit-scheme\/\">Treatment Benefit Scheme<\/a> offers discounted or free health services to a range of workers. These include workers who pay PRSI, self-employed people and employees who have retired but who paid the necessary number of social insurance (PRSI) payments when working.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What types of health benefits are covered?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The scheme covers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>dental<\/li>\n<li>optical and<\/li>\n<li>aural (hearing) services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So, if you need check-ups or tests in any of the above, you may be entitled to a free or discounted service from whichever private company you use.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is there a dentist near me in Dublin that offers PRSI entitlements?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While not all dental practices in Ireland have signed up to it, our practice, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dentalcareireland.ie\/nidm\/\">Northumberland Dental Care<\/a> in Ballsbridge in Dublin 4, is part of this scheme.<\/p>\n<p>Our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dentalcareireland.ie\/dentist-dublin\/\">Dublin partner practices<\/a> in the Dental Care Ireland group \u2013 in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dentalcareireland.ie\/practices\/dentist-cabinteely\/\">Cabinteely<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dentalcareireland.ie\/practices\/dentist-greystones\/\">Greystones (Co Wicklow)<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dentalcareireland.ie\/practices\/dentist-knocklyon\/\">Knocklyon<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dentalcareireland.ie\/practices\/dentist-swords\/\">Swords<\/a> \u2013 also offer an \u2018Exam, Scale &amp; Polish\u2019 for only \u20ac15 under the initiative.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do I know if I\u2019m entitled to the benefits?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To find out if you qualify, you can call our south Dublin practice on +35316688441 and our receptionist will be able to check to see if you are eligible for an Exam, Scale and Polish for \u20ac15. Bear in mind that to do so, we will need your permission to check this, as well as your PPSN and your date of birth. The process is very quick.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What if I forget to claim in a particular year?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The scheme only runs during each calendar year from January to December, so if you don\u2019t claim your 2019 entitlement, you cannot claim that one in 2020 as it does not roll over. This is why it is important to do so now before the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What exactly can I claim?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are various dental entitlements for employees and self-employed people under the scheme. You can get a full dental exam and a subsidised scale and polish (capped at \u20ac15) or a partially subsidised periodontal treatment.<\/p>\n<p>A periodontal treatment is a deeper clean and is generally carried out if a normal \u2018Scale &amp; Polish\u2019 would not be enough to restore your teeth and gums to their optimal state.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What does an \u2018Exam, Polish and Scale\u2019 entail? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A dental exam at Northumberland Dental Care involves our dentists carrying out a thorough assessment of your teeth and gums. This will ascertain how healthy they are and what future treatment you will need, if any.<\/p>\n<p>A \u2018Scale &amp; Polish\u2019 is a professional deep cleaning of your teeth. It is essential as no matter how well we brush and floss, plaque can still build up. The \u2018scale\u2019 element removes any plaque or tartar that may have accumulated in your mouth.<\/p>\n<p>The polishing part of the procedure will remove any staining and should leave your teeth looking brighter and shinier. Note that a polish is not merely cosmetic but will also remove tiny imperfections or rough areas on your teeth.
