Generally, yes. As we are a specialist clinic your dentist will normally be required to refer you here. However, under certain circumstances if you do not have a General Dentist we can register you here at the Northumberland Institute of Dental Medicine.

Please do not worry, you are not alone. More patients than you would think suffer from Dental related anxiety. We have the most up to date technologies in pain management at the Clinic. We also offer a Sedation facility with our in house Consultant Anaesthetist Dr Michael Carey.

Any x-rays that have been taken in the last 2-3 years.
A list of medications you are currently taking.
A complete Medical History form to save time at your first appointment.
Any dental insurance details, for example: Dentalcover.ie, VHI, Aviva, Quinn etc.

Your consultation will be €80 – 150 depending on the specialist and this includes any small x-rays needed on the day. The consultation fee may be deducted for specific comprehensive treatment plans. For full treatment fees click here.

Payment options: major credit and debit cards, cheque and cash.

If you do not have recent x-rays or require an OPG or CT-scan, you may avail of our in-house imaging services. Please advise us of this when booking your consultation.

Your initial consultation is to decide what treatment is required and to devise a comprehensive treatment plan for you. However, if you are in any discomfort or pain we will address this immediately.

Your consultation appointment will take approximately 30 – 45 minutes.

Firstly, we will liaise closely with you and your general dentist to agree on your treatment plan. We will then arrange your treatment schedule with you.

Yes, this will need to be discussed with the Specialist Dentist on the day of your consultation.

Yes, within certain guidelines.

Unlike routine dental treatments, many specialist treatments qualify for tax relief. For example, root canal treatments, crowns, bridges, dental implants, gum treatments and wisdom tooth extractions are covered. For detailed information, see the revenue website.

Yes, all major healthcare providers are accepted at NIDM. However we do advise to contact your healthcare provider directly in regards to your specific treatment and cover level. We will complete your relevant forms at the end of treatment, and any further details you require.

In some cases these providers offer a contribution towards treatment such as wisdom tooth removal.

VHI also offers a contribution towards dental implants in certain circumstances. Again we would advise contacting your insurance company directly for specific queries.
